A dimmer switch is the single most effective lighting upgrade available without changing a fitting. Dulora's dimmer range covers trailing-edge LED dimmers for in-wall installation, smart dimmer switches for app and voice control, plug-in dimmers for lamp and table light applications, and dial and knob dimmers for simple rotary control.

Every dimmer in the range is tested and confirmed compatible with Dulora dimmable globes for smooth, flicker-free performance from 1 to 100 per cent. The DimEzy plug-in dimmer is the simplest upgrade: plug in, connect the lamp, and dim from the unit or the included remote. No electrician required.

For in-wall dimmer installation, a registered electrician is required for New Zealand mains-voltage wiring work. For the full dimmable globe range, see GLS Dimmable and Candle Globes.

AS/NZS certified, three-year warranty, Backed by over 2,200 verified customer reviews. Trusted across Aotearoa since 2010.

Dimmer Switches: The Simplest Way to Transform How a Room Feels

Why does dimmer type matter for LED globes?

LED globes draw much less power than the incandescent and halogen globes that older dimmers were designed for. A leading-edge dimmer rated for 60W incandescent loads may buzz, flicker, or fail to dim properly when driving a 7W LED globe. Trailing-edge dimmers are designed for the lower wattage and different electrical characteristics of LED loads.

All Dulora dimmable globes are tested with trailing-edge dimmers. If your existing dimmer is causing issues, replacing it with a trailing-edge model is almost always the fix.

Wall dimmer, plug-in dimmer, or smart dimmer: which do I need?

Wall dimmers replace the existing light switch and control the fitting permanently. They require installation by a registered electrician in New Zealand. Plug-in dimmers (including the DimEzy) sit between the power point and the lamp, requiring no wiring work. Smart dimmers add app control, voice control, and scheduling on top of manual dimming.

For a single lamp or table light, the DimEzy plug-in is the fastest and simplest option. For a room's main ceiling light, a wall dimmer provides the cleanest result. For whole-home control, smart dimmers offer the most flexibility.

What is the DimEzy and how does it work?

The DimEzy is Dulora's plug-in trailing-edge LED dimmer. It plugs into a standard New Zealand power point, the lamp plugs into the DimEzy, and the dimmer controls brightness via a dial on the unit or an included remote. No electrician, no wiring, no installation. It is the simplest way to add dimming to any lamp in the home and is confirmed compatible with the full Dulora dimmable range.

Frequently Asked Questions: LED Dimmers

  • Do I need a special dimmer for LED lights?
  • Often, yes. Dimmers built for old incandescent bulbs don't always play nicely with LED, you can end up with flickering, buzzing, or a dimming range that won't go as low as you'd like. Pairing the right dimmer with the right LED matters more than most people expect. If you're not sure what to look for, our guide on choosing the right LED dimmer switch walks through it step by step.
  • Are Dulora dimmers compatible with all LED globes?
  • Dulora dimmers are tested and confirmed compatible with Dulora dimmable globes. Compatibility with third-party globes depends on the globe's driver design. For best results, use Dulora dimmers with Dulora dimmable globes.
  • Do I need an electrician to install a dimmer?
  • For in-wall dimmers that replace an existing light switch, yes: a registered electrician is required for mains-voltage wiring work in New Zealand. For plug-in dimmers like the DimEzy, no electrician is needed.
  • Are Dulora dimmers certified for New Zealand?
  • Yes. All Dulora dimmers carry AS/NZS certification and are covered by a three-year product warranty.
