The Gold Crown Effect
The gold crown is a mirrored cap applied to the top of the globe that changes how the light behaves in the fixture. Instead of radiating in all directions, the light is reflected upward and outward by the gold surface, bouncing off the inside of the shade or pendant housing before reaching the room. No, these bulbs are "retro-fit," meaning they fit directly into your existing E27 or B22 sockets. However, if you are experiencing dimming issues, we recommend having an electrician check that your wall dimmer is a modern "Trailing Edge" model, which is the standard for high-performance LED lighting.
This depends on the specific wattage and room size, as our collection offers everything from soft ambient 4W (470lm) globes to powerful 11W–12W (1500lm+) statement bulbs. Like Alex's review, I originally bought this for the dining table using a shade very similar - lovely soft light and no glare. I also bought two for our balcony so we can have a soft light there also. I installed as "bare bulbs" on a pendant fitting but the pendant essentially functioning as a close-to-ceiling fitting as the ceiling is low and angled. Only issue was we could see the top of the filament from certain angles which was glary. Solution was to use a frosting spray and frost just a thin annular ring , but to do so I needed to mask the rest of the bulb, I used masking tape as it has low adhesions. Sadly the gold coating peeled off with the tape. So the frosting solution worked brilliantly for what I wanted to do but I was sad to lose that gold coating. Granted, not many people will be doing what I did but just be aware that the coating is delicate.
