Where is 24V the right voltage choice over 12V or 240V?

24V is preferred over 12V in applications with longer cable runs, higher total wattage loads, or commercial-scale installations. The higher voltage reduces current flow through the cabling, which means less voltage drop over distance and thinner cable requirements. This makes 24V the standard for commercial festoon lighting (where runs often exceed 20 metres), larger marine vessels with 24V DC electrical systems, warehouse and workshop lighting, and architectural accent systems in commercial fit-outs.

24V is preferred over 240V in applications where safe extra-low-voltage (SELV) is specified for safety or where the installation needs to comply with low-voltage requirements. Can I mix 12V and 24V globes in the same system?

What driver do I need for a 24V LED installation?

A constant-voltage 24V DC LED driver is the standard power supply for new 24V installations. The driver steps mains voltage (240V) down to 24V DC and must be rated for at least the total wattage of all connected globes, with a 20 per cent overhead margin for reliability.
